Booking.com
Booking.com is our go-to site to book accommodations. They have a large selection of accommodations all over the world, with lots of options to search and zoom in on the property of your choice. Their rates are competitive, and policies reasonable.
Tripadvisor
We use Tripadvisor mainly to look at reviews of prospective accommodations or activities and tours. Reading through a selection of reviews, both the good and the not-so-good, helps us set our expectations appropriately. Most of the time, reality has been in line with the picture we’ve formed from reading a cross-section of reviews.
Tours and EXPERIENCES
GetYourGuide
GetYourGuide is our first choice when it comes to guided tours, activities and experiences, and excursions. Their site is easy to navigate, they have a wide selection with lots of reviews (especially in popular destinations in Europe), and our experience with them has always been great.
Viator
Viator is another option for tours and activities that we have used quite a bit, especially in North America, where their selections are large. We have canceled tours without issues on a couple of occasions, and their offerings have matched expectations.
Take Walks
An excellent option for tours where they have offerings: their guides tend to be extremely knowledgeable and the group sizes small. Take Walks also offer unique experiences you can’t find elsewhere. We have done tours of the Vatican Museums in Rome, the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, and St. Mark’s in Venice with them and each one was memorable.
