San Diego makes an exciting California vacation destination any time of year. While there is much to do here and you could spend weeks exploring, you can also have a fun weekend trip to America's Finest City.

Cabrillo National Monument offers a peek into the past, but it's also a great place to enjoy the outdoors, with hiking, tidepooling, birdwatching, and more.

Balboa Park is a thriving arts and gardens district in the heart of San Diego. The Botanical Building is a star attraction in the complex.

Balboa Park has a lot to see and do, but the Japanese Friendship Garden is a must-visit. If you enjoy art, visit the San Diego Museum of Art. Kids (and many adults!) will enjoy the Model Railroad Museum.

Take the ferry, or drive over the cool Coronado Bridge, to Coronado Island, where you will find a gorgeous beach, views of downtown San Diego, a historic hotel , and a charming village to explore.

To the north of downtown San Diego, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve offers ocean view hikes. Torrey Pines State Beach is great for sunbathing and strolling as well.

At La Jolla Cove, watch the antics of  seals and sea lions from the walkway above. The beach is beautiful, and you can swim, snorkel, or go scuba diving.

Downtown La Jolla is a great place to stroll, with excellent shopping, dining, galleries, and museums.

Exploring San Diego's neighborhoods is a fun evening activity. Little Italy and the Gaslamp Quarter are two must-visits, with great dining and nightlife.
